A new fitness center designed for children is set to open soon in Topeka.

Troy and Cayla Brown, who recently moved to Shawnee County with their three children, plan to open a My Gym franchise this fall in Seabrook Shopping Center, at 1921 S.W. Gage Blvd., where Anytime Fitness was previously located.

The Browns are U.S. Army veterans who recently retired from the service and decided to move to the Topeka area from the east coast to raise their family. Troy spent more than 30 years with the Army, while Cayla served for about 28.

“We were looking for a slower-paced, family-oriented community to raise our young kids,” Cayla said of their move to the capital city.

Upon retiring from the military, the Browns wanted to stay busy and thought entrepreneurship might be the perfect fit. They looked into owning a My Gym franchise, as they were familiar with the business from having held their own children’s birthday parties there.
